Diamond Set
Once upon a time, I was admiring the brand new engagement ring of a good friend of mine, and of course, she also had the wedding ring with her so that we could all admire the diamond set. Together, it was a beautiful diamond set, but I could tell because she was a good friend of mine, there was something wrong. And I asked, “What is the problem? Are you having second thoughts about getting married?”
No, that wasn’t it at all. Her problem was that this was not the diamond set she wanted. Well, the obvious question is why did he buy that kind of set if that wasn’t what she wanted? “Didn’t he listen to what you said?” I asked. “Oh, I said nothing. I didn’t tell him what I wanted. I said whatever he chose would be perfect.”
Well that was the problem right then and there. These diamond bridal sets are something that you will be wearing and looking at everyday, presumably for the rest of your life. And one of the best pieces of advice that a man who was shopping for a diamond set should take under advisement is to ask the lady in question what she want. Let her be with you when you choose the diamond set. I know that there is a traditional movie-type scenario where the man shows up with the diamond and surprises the lady with the question.
Well even if you want to do it that way, you should make sure that what she is going to be wearing is what she wants to wear. Don’t just look at whether or not she wants to wear your ring, or whether she wants to wear that ring. If you don’t want to ask her, take a look at the kind of rings that she likes. Check at the jewelry she wears. Look at whether she likes pear-shaped rings, pear shaped stones, or she likes plain jewelry, or she likes ornate jewelry. Take a good long look and you’ll have a good idea as to what shape of diamond she likes.
Of course, there are other choices that are equally important from a diamond point of view, such as the 4 C’s; the color, the cut, the clarity, and the carat. But never forget that that only choice that counts is the choice of diamond set that your lady will love.
